Mason Mitchell returns to Iowa Speedway on Friday evening for the Atlas 150 in the No. 23 Karl Chevrolet for Sigma Performance Services. The 2014 ARCA Menards Series champion grew up in West Des Moines, about 30 minutes from the seven-eighths-mile track known as the “Fastest Short Track on The Planet.”
Mitchell won at Iowa in 2015 with a last-lap pass, securing his second career ARCA victory. In six starts at the track, beginning with his ARCA debut in 2012, he has one win, five top-10 finishes and an average finish of 7.7.
Mitchell, who turns 30 on June 25, returned to ARCA competition in April at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway after nearly six years away and finished 18th. He will also race on Iowa dirt tracks this season, with a schedule ranging from dirt trucks to modifieds.
SPS comes to Iowa after Sam Mayer won the ARCA Menards Series West General Tire 200 at Sonoma Raceway in the No. 23. The Atlas 150 will air on FS1 at 8 p.m. EST and on the Motor Racing Network.
I still remember taking the checkered flag like it was yesterday. We worked all race long to make the right adjustments and we put ourselves in an excellent position for the final restart. It was the hardest I've ever driven in my life. Victory lane was electric. We will have a lot of friends, family and sponsors in the stands Friday evening.
