Team SPS takes its name from Sigma Engineering Solutions, the engineering company Joe Farré founded in 2006. Farré carried the name into Sigma Performance Services to keep his businesses’ branding consistent.
Sigma Engineering Solutions is a Las Vegas civil and structural engineering consultancy whose published services include airport infrastructure, bridge design, construction engineering and engineered demolition. Its project record includes design and construction management work on the 12-mile I-11 bypass around Boulder City, Nevada, giving the name an engineering history beyond motorsport.
Farré wanted a name that was easy to pronounce, spell and type. His surname, pronounced FAR-A, could cause confusion; Sigma was spelled as it sounded, and its symbol was available in most word-processing software.
Sigma is a Greek letter whose capital form denotes a sum in mathematics. Paired with Engineering Solutions, it expressed Farré’s aim to provide a total engineering solution. The engineering company has used the name for 20 years.
Sigma Performance Services, now known as Team SPS, also describes the work behind the racing operation. The company designs, fabricates and implements racing chassis and competition components for its own use.
